Meet Dr. Blair Cook

Hello and Welcome! I am so glad you are here and taking some of the first steps to enhancing your wellness. The next step is finding a good fit between you and your therapist. I'd like to share more about myself so that you can get a feel for me and the services I provide, allowing you to make an informed decision as you continue on this journey.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia. I began seeing clients in 2013 during my Master's work at the University of Cincinnati where I graduated with a degree in Mental Health Counseling. During that time, I worked for a community-based agency providing individual, group, and family services for children, young adults, and family units. As I moved into the Doctoral Program in Counselor Education and Supervision I continued my clinical practice, supervised Master’s students in their work with clients, and taught several foundation courses for burgeoning therapists. I moved to Atlanta in 2016 while I continued working on my PhD, taught counseling courses, and held space for clients in Private Practice. I am currently taking a break from teaching to focus on clinical practice and specializing in the treatment of OCD.

Working with clients means first and foremost creating a therapeutic relationship and solid alliance as we uncover and explore emotions and work towards goals. Along the road to achieving clients’ goals, I offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Strength-Based and Person-Centered services as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills building for adults and young adults. This means I use evidence-based research to support the work I do with clients. That being said, I always tailor my services to every single client, helping each client grow toward their goals. When working with young adults, I may incorporate the family into services and provide parenting skills sessions to further help parents understand and assist their child.

The majority of my clients are adults or young adults that have concerns related to anxiety and OCD (addressed using Exposure and Response Prevention), ADHD, stress, life transitions, relationships and/or family concerns. I also have experience working with individuals with trauma, young adult self-harm, and women’s empowerment issues. I see younger clients (18 and younger) on a case-by-case basis.

I think it’s also important to share that I see a lot of clients who have come to believe that they are “not enough”. Through the working therapeutic relationship, we explore that little voice that whispers (and sometimes shouts), “You’re not enough” and gently shift the internal narrative by focusing on mindfulness self-compassion, family of origin relationships, and new messages of self-worth. I truly believe no one has to be stuck with an inner critic, but has the ability to grow into a self-loving person.

It is also so important to know that through my practice I am committed to providing clients a judgement free space that feels safe and relaxed- a space for clients to explore whatever comes up. I honor systemic concerns that create difficulties in a clients life and that may make treatment more challenging. I am an LGBTQIA+ affirming and sex-positive therapist as well as a culturally affirming therapist.

I have a huge passion for health and wellness - I honor the strong connection between body and mind, which means outside of the office you can usually find me reading books outside, doing some form of playful movement practice, or playing with my two pups. I have enjoyed teaching several courses in the counseling department at the University of Cincinnati, researching, and reading. I truly believe that we do our best work for others when we first do our best work for ourselves. I model that through my own wellness journey and encourage all clients to make self-care and self-love a priority!

My Philosophy

I believe counseling is a collaborative process, where we come together to co-create a plan for services and work together to highlight your strengths. This means we will work together to identify your goals, beliefs, and assets; process life stressors; and implement evidence-based practices to help you achieve wellness (however that is defined for you).

As we move through therapy, we will focus on the relationships and bonds you have with others as these can be a great source of struggle and strength. We will identify thinking patterns that obstruct a positive mindset and process through alternatives to help you navigate life more confidently. These are just a few of the processes that may be implemented in services, all of which would be tailored to your needs.

As a therapist, I make a commitment to each client to fulfill certain roles. It is my role to listen to you, to reflect what I see, and to meet you where you are. It is my role to help you know that your life can ABSOLUTELY get better.  It is my role to highlight all the qualities that make you resilient and help you appreciate the unique qualities that make you human, flaws and all.

It would be my pleasure to see you. If you're interested, you can book an appointment here
